Tulum, Quintana Roo — A gas leak explosion at a laundry business in central Tulum on Tuesday afternoon prompted emergency response and caused minor injuries and property damage.
Preliminary reports indicate the incident occurred on Sagitario Street at the intersection with Beta and Orion, where neighbors alerted emergency services after hearing an explosion followed by a fire inside the establishment.
Initial information suggests the explosion was caused by an accumulation of butane gas inside the business, which ignited upon contact with a possible spark. The fire damaged equipment including a severely damaged washing machine.
One person, believed to be an employee or manager, sustained first-degree burns but was not transported by emergency services. The individual was reportedly taken to a medical center in a private vehicle for evaluation.
Civil protection personnel responded to control the situation and eliminate additional risks for area residents. With help from bystanders, the fire was contained before spreading to other buildings.
Authorities cordoned off the area as a precaution while conducting inspections to determine the exact cause of the incident.
