Cancún, Quintana Roo — Defending water means defending land, identity and the life of a community. That is the struggle captured in Los que dicen ¡No!, a documentary by director Ángel F. Flores that arrives in Cancún for a special screening hosted by the Cineclub La Última Fila in collaboration with Ambulante Presenta.

The free screening is set for Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 6 p.m. at the Teatro 8 de Octubre. The event forms part of the programming leading up to the 16th National Colloquium of the Seminario de Cultura Mexicana, which brings together proposals for reflecting on the environmental and social challenges of the present.

A Defense of the Río Apulco

The film takes viewers into the mountains of the Sierra Norte de Puebla, where peasant farmers from nearby communities organize to defend the Río Apulco against extractive projects that, according to the documentary, threaten their surroundings.

Through their testimonies and experiences, the film shows the collective strength of those who refuse to lose their natural resources and their way of life. It is a story of resistance, but also of dignity and hope, in which the defense of territory becomes a shared cause.

Cineclub Opens a Free Screening

With this screening, the cineclub creates a space to approach documentary filmmaking as a tool for telling real stories, raising questions and putting on the table issues that involve everyone, such as water conservation and environmental protection.

The screening offers a chance to look beyond the screen and hear the voices of those who have chosen to defend what they consider essential to the future of their communities.
