Cancún, Quintana Roo — What can a girl do when she is bored at home and her mother won’t get off a work call? For Catsup, the young protagonist of a Mexico City theater production now heading to Cancún, the answer is to let her imagination run and dream about everything she misses from the outside world.
The play Catsup, written by Daniela Arroio and directed by Micaela Gramajo of Proyecto Perla Teatro, will be staged at the Teatro 8 de Octubre on Saturday, Oct. 24, and Sunday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m.
Admission is free. Tickets will be available two hours before each performance.
A Pandemic Story Told Through a Child’s Eyes
The story follows a girl who can no longer stand being cooped up during the pandemic. From her bedroom window, she imagines the moment she can return to the park, reunite with her classmates and hug her friends.
What adults might see as an ordinary wait becomes, for her, an adventure filled with whims, wishes and emotions.
With an intimate look at childhood, the production explores how young children experienced isolation and separation from the people they love, while keeping the humor and sense of wonder that define that stage of life.
An Invitation to Talk About Emotions and Friendship
Catsup also invites adults to remember the importance of playing, spending time together and listening to what children feel. Through a restless, energetic protagonist, the play turns a shared experience into a story that both children and grown-ups can relate to.
The Proyecto Perla Teatro production offers families a chance to connect with the performing arts and to talk, through imagination, about emotions, friendship and the need to feel accompanied.
