A serious road accident on the Tulum-Cobá highway, near kilometer marker 6.5, resulted in four injuries and significant property damage. The incident happened on Wednesday morning when the driver of a Mazda 3 attempted to pass a slowing truck, which was preparing to enter a gas station. The Mazda collided with the side of the truck, whose driver subsequently fled the scene.

Emergency services and police were alerted to the accident via a 911 call. Responding units included the Municipal Police and the National Guard Division Roads, who cordoned off the area to prevent further incidents. The crash had caused traffic disruption due to debris from the damaged vehicle on the road.

Paramedics from a private ambulance service attended to the four occupants of the Mazda 3, who had sustained injuries of varying degrees. After initial treatment at the scene, the injured parties were transported to Tulum General Hospital for further medical assessment.

Civil Protection staff also attended the scene to evaluate any additional risks resulting from the accident. A tow truck was dispatched to remove the damaged vehicle. The investigation into the accident, including efforts to locate the truck driver who left the scene, has been handed over to the Public Ministry.
