Progreso, Yucatán — The first phase of the modernization and expansion of the Port of Progreso is nearing completion, with authorities preparing for its official handover and the launch of the second stage, which will involve private investment.

Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena and Jorge Carlos Tobilla Rodríguez, director general of the National Port System Administration (Asipona) in Progreso, reviewed the final progress of the project during a monthly working meeting. Officials reported that finishing touches are being applied ahead of the handover, expected in the coming weeks.

The second phase, which will be led by the private sector, is the next of three planned stages. The overall project aims to strengthen port infrastructure and position Yucatán as an international logistics hub.

Díaz Mena said the state government is working on the administrative closure of the first phase and will initiate the formal delivery-reception process once work is complete. He reiterated the state’s willingness to set up working groups, share information, and coordinate efforts to ensure continuity of the project.

“The Government of the State of Yucatán, as the driver of the state’s economic development and the main promoter of investment in the Port of Progreso, expresses its interest in leading the commercial strategy and investment attraction, establishing guidelines to define the port’s vocations and evaluate investment projects that benefit Yucatán and its population,” the governor said.

Díaz Mena thanked Navy Secretary Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles and President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo for their support of the project.

Tobilla Rodríguez thanked the governor for the follow-up space and reaffirmed Asipona’s commitment to advancing the project as planned.

The meeting included participation via videoconference from representatives of the General Directorates of Ports, Port Development and Administration, and the Government Protection Unit. In-person attendees included state officials such as Dafne López Martínez, coordinator of Strategic Projects; Ermilo Barrera Novelo, head of the Secretariat of Economy and Labor; and others from the state government and Asipona.
