Mahahual, Quintana Roo — A fierce fire early Saturday destroyed more than 30 golf carts in the coastal town of Mahahual, causing preliminary losses estimated at over 7.5 million pesos (about $400,000 USD), authorities said.
The blaze broke out shortly after midnight on Calle Caribe, near the port of Mahahual. Flames spread quickly among the parked vehicles, waking neighbors who reported seeing a glow and smelling smoke.
Firefighters and emergency responders arrived at the scene but could not prevent most of the carts from being completely charred. Each golf cart was valued at approximately 250,000 pesos (about $13,000 USD), placing total damages above 7.5 million pesos.
No injuries were reported.
The area remains cordoned off as investigators work to determine the cause of the fire and whether it was accidental or intentional.
