Federal Judge Again Denies Release to Venezuelan Man Accused of Attempting to Kill His Daughter

Jorge Luis Brizuela Guevara in court

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A federal judge has again denied conditional release to Jorge Luis Brizuela Guevara, known as “El Venezolano,” who was arrested in March on charges of attempted femicide against his own daughter.

Judge Alejandro Villa Arnaiz of the Second District Court granted Brizuela Guevara a definitive suspension of proceedings, but the ruling does not allow him to regain his freedom. Instead, it places him under the federal judge’s authority for the purpose of verifying due process.

“The definitive suspension is denied to Jorge Luis Brizuela Guevara in terms of the fourth consideration of this resolution. SECOND. The definitive suspension is granted to Jorge Luis Brizuela Guevara in terms of the fifth consideration of this resolution,” the court document states.

Brizuela Guevara, who once flaunted connections with powerful figures in Quintana Roo and threatened media outlets, will remain in prison on domestic violence-related charges.

According to the case file, authorities reported Monday that they were unable to notify the victims of the ruling.

“The inability of the court-appointed officer to notify the minor victim with initials I.B.E. and her mother as her representative of the order dated May 6, 2026, is noted … for the reasons stated therein. Upon review of the electronic file of the administrative folder … a different address is noted where the aforementioned third parties could be served, which is located at …” the document reads.

Brizuela Guevara was arrested in March after pretending to be an influential figure in recent months. He faces a direct accusation for attempted femicide, for which he was formally charged and jailed.

His case is one of the most high-profile in the state, as he went from making constant threats against various actors, including media outlets, to being behind bars.

With the denial of the suspension, he must await a new opportunity through an appeal via a review petition.
