Quintana Roo, Mexico — Federal Deputy Sergio Mayer Bretón has publicly denounced a man identified as Arturo Antonio for violently assaulting a woman in Quintana Roo. The incident, captured on surveillance footage, was shared by Mayer on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, prompting calls for immediate action from state authorities.
Graphic Footage Sparks Outrage
The video, recorded inside a residence, shows the assailant slapping, dragging, and brutally beating the victim while hurling insults. Mayer described the footage as “outrageous” and cautioned users before viewing it.
In his post, the deputy revealed that at least two prior investigations have been opened against the alleged aggressor, Arturo Aguirre Moreno. According to Mayer, Moreno violated a court-issued restraining order and repeatedly subjected the woman to physical and verbal abuse.
“This coward you see here is the alleged abuser who walks freely through the streets of Quintana Roo. Are we waiting for him to become a femicide statistic before acting?” Mayer stated.
The legislator, who also serves as secretary of the Public Security and Justice commissions in the Chamber of Deputies, urged Quintana Roo’s Attorney General’s Office (FGE) to intervene. He confirmed that authorities already have the suspect’s address to expedite his apprehension.
Authorities Yet to Respond
As of Tuesday, July 22, the FGE has not issued an official statement regarding the case. However, developments are expected in the coming hours, including the potential opening of a formal investigation and an arrest warrant for the accused.
Mayer’s post included a direct appeal to FGE head Raciel López Salazar, emphasizing the urgency of the matter.
“As secretary of the security and justice commission in the Chamber of Deputies, I urge you to take action. There are two investigation files dating back a year,” Mayer wrote.
The case has drawn significant attention, with advocates demanding swift justice to prevent further violence against women in the state.
