Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — An elderly woman was found dead in a rooming house in Playa del Carmen, with her body in an advanced state of decomposition indicating she had been deceased for several days.
The discovery occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Monday, March 23, in a rooming house located on Avenida 40 between Calles 40 and 42 Norte in the Zazil-Há neighborhood.
Neighbors reported foul odors emanating from a room in the area, prompting them to alert authorities. Municipal police officers arrived as first responders.
Preliminary investigations suggest the woman had been dead for approximately five days. Municipal police cordoned off the area while awaiting the arrival of Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office agents, who will lead the investigation.
Forensic Medical Service personnel collected the remains for transport to the morgue, where an autopsy will be performed. The cause of death remains unknown, though authorities say it may be natural.
