Cartel Cell Busted with Military Arsenal in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Eight alleged members of a violent criminal cell were arrested in a series of coordinated operations by federal, state, and municipal forces in Playa del Carmen. The suspects were found in possession of a military-grade arsenal, including 13 rifles, three handguns, and 76 loaded magazines, according to the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

Joint Operation Targets Drug Trafficking Network

The arrests were carried out by the Interinstitutional Task Force, which includes the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, the Mexican Army (Sedena), the Navy (Semar), the National Guard, State Police, and Playa del Carmen Municipal Police. Authorities stated the group was engaged in territorial disputes over drug sales in the region.

First Raid: Massive Weapons Cache

The initial operation took place on Paseos del Mayab street in the Marsella 3 neighborhood, where Sara Yazmín "N" and José Cruz "N" were apprehended. Inside their vehicle, officers discovered packages of marijuana, methamphetamine, and crystal meth. The trunk contained 12 assault rifles, 76 metal magazines, and two handguns with ammunition.

Second Raid: Additional Firearms and Drugs

On Avenida Los Gansos in the Pescadores Quinto Parque subdivision, Marco Antonio "N," Jorge Ezequiel "N," and Guadalupe "N" were arrested. They were found with marijuana, a high-caliber rifle, and two pistols—all loaded and ready for use.

Third Raid: Drug Exchange Interrupted

Jorge Luis "N" and Julio César "N" were detained on Avenida Chemuyil, between Colosio and Monte de las Cascadas in the Bosque Real neighborhood, during an apparent drug transaction. Authorities seized bags of marijuana and a motorcycle used for transportation.

Fourth Raid: Woman Arrested with Narcotics

In the same area, Esmeralda Rubí "N" was taken into custody while carrying marijuana packaged for distribution.

The FGE confirmed that preliminary investigations indicate the detainees belong to the same criminal structure responsible for recent violent incidents in Playa del Carmen. The sophistication of their weaponry suggests they were not low-level dealers but an armed cell capable of confronting rivals and security forces.

All suspects and seized materials were handed over to prosecutors, who will determine their legal status in the coming hours.
