Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A suspected drunk driver crashed into a tree, overturned his car, and fled the scene early Sunday morning in the Colosio neighborhood.
The accident occurred around midnight on CTM Avenue near 25th Avenue. According to initial reports, the driver of a gray Suzuki Baleno was traveling westbound when he lost control of the vehicle for reasons still under investigation.
The car struck a tree in the central median head-on. The impact caused the vehicle to spin and roll over completely, landing on its roof with all four wheels in the air, alarming nearby residents.
Witnesses said the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. After the crash, realizing he had no serious injuries, the man climbed out of the overturned car and fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle.
Local residents called 911, prompting a response from the Public Security Department. Officers cordoned off part of the roadway to prevent further incidents and began procedures to right the vehicle and remove it from the site.
The car was later towed to an impound lot. Authorities have not yet located the driver or vehicle owner, who must claim the car and answer for the damages caused.
