Dog That Attacked Girls in Playa Del Carmen Spared from Euthanasia

Cirilo, a dog who recently attacked and injured two girls in the Villas del Sol subdivision, will not be euthanized. Samantha Álvarez, head of the Secretariat of Environment and Climate Change, confirmed this in a recent interview.

Currently, Cirilo is under the care of the municipal authorities at the Animal Control, Assistance and Zoonosis Center of Solidaridad. The dog will remain there until the prosecutor's office finalizes its investigation into the owner's potential involvement in the incident.

Álvarez emphasized that despite rumors circulating on social media, the dog will not be euthanized. "We've opened an investigation and are currently housing the dog. There have been many comments suggesting that the dog will be put to sleep, but that's not the case," she said.

She further explained that the dog will undergo training or treatment to help socialize it and reduce its aggressive behavior. If the dog is not returned to its owner, there is a possibility that it could be put up for adoption in the future.
