Cancún, Mexico — The deepest darkness can sometimes spark creation. Under this premise, acclaimed director and choreographer Alejandra Barrón, a recipient of the Program for the Stimulus of Artistic Creation and Development (PECDA), will present her new choreographic production titled Desde Cero. The emotionally charged performance will take place on Saturday, June 14, at 7:00 PM at the prestigious Teatro 8 de Octubre, with free admission for the public.
A Dance of Invisible Wounds and Resilience
Desde Cero is a work that invites reflection on the invisible wounds many carry. Through dance, Barrón seeks to foster empathy and awareness around sensitive yet often silenced issues that shape real-life experiences. The choreography draws inspiration from true stories of women who have battled addiction and, after arduous recovery journeys, now offer a hopeful perspective.
Barrón’s creative process began with intimate, in-depth interviews, revealing shared emotions such as guilt, abandonment, and shame—but also resilience, courage, and hope. These narratives were transformed into choreography, blending contemporary dance, lyrical jazz, and hip-hop, performed by a talented ensemble of seven female and two male dancers.
A Carefully Curated Soundtrack
The musical selection for Desde Cero features works by singer-songwriters Silvana Estrada, María José Llergo, Silvia Pérez, and the all-female group La Colmena. This soundtrack enhances the dancers’ powerful interpretations, creating a moving experience for audiences.
With Desde Cero, Barrón demonstrates her ability to tackle complex and challenging themes, translating them into powerful and sensitive stage art. The performance offers a unique opportunity for attendees to reflect on emotional health and personal growth.
The community is invited to witness this significant production at Teatro 8 de Octubre, where art and social consciousness converge.
