Cozumel, Quintana Roo — The Fundación de Parques y Museos de Cozumel (FPMC) organized a “Mindful Walk” at Parque Urbano Corazón, combining learning, social interaction, and direct contact with nature. Participants reflected on their relationship with the environment and the value of the island’s natural heritage.
Students from the Colegio Nacional de Educación Profesional Técnica (CONALEP) joined the trail walk, where they practiced mindfulness exercises and activities designed to foster appreciation for the connection between people and nature. The goal was to raise awareness about the importance of conserving ecosystems and responsibly using natural spaces.
The activity was led by Adrián Andrés Tun Cano, head of Parque Urbano Corazón, who thanked psychologist Azucena Luna Andrade of Red Florecer Desarrollo Humano and the collective Casa Casero for their collaboration in organizing the community event.
As part of the experience, participants took part in an artistic intervention of works by local creators, accompanied by relaxing music, creating a space for expression and coexistence that complemented the learning from the walk.
FPMC General Director Juanita Alonso Marrufo said these activities help bring the community closer to public and natural spaces from an educational and inclusive perspective. She noted that mindful contact with nature promotes well-being and strengthens citizens’ commitment to environmental care.
Alonso also highlighted that the initiative encourages social participation, environmental education, and the building of more conscious communities committed to preserving their natural and cultural surroundings, in line with Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa’s New Agreement for the Welfare and Development of Quintana Roo.
