Construction Worker Beaten to Death in Cancun’s Region 223

Police tape cordoning off a crime scene on a Cancun street near a construction site

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A construction worker was beaten to death Monday afternoon on Chac Mool Avenue in the city’s Region 223 neighborhood, prompting a large police response.

Authorities received a 911 call from workers at a nearby construction site who reported finding an unconscious man with multiple injuries outside the property at the intersection of Chac Mool and Chetumal avenues, next to the Los Heroes residential development.

Private paramedics arrived shortly afterward but could only confirm that the victim had no vital signs due to the severity of the blows.

Investigative police and forensic experts from the State Prosecutor’s Office cordoned off the area and began gathering evidence to determine the circumstances of the homicide.

Two unofficial versions of the incident emerged. One suggests the man was attacked inside the construction site and later left on the public street; the other indicates the beating occurred at the location where he was found.

The victim was preliminarily identified as Abel “N,” approximately 40 years old, who reportedly worked in construction.

His body was taken to the Forensic Medical Service for an autopsy. Authorities plan to review footage from C5 surveillance cameras installed near the scene to identify those responsible.
