Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Authorities arrested a US man wanted for homicide in Iowa and turned him over to immigration officials, according to the Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office.
The suspect, identified as Alex “N,” was detained Thursday on Jesús Martínez Ross Avenue in the Salina neighborhood following a joint investigation with US agencies. The operation involved the Transnational Crimes Unit of the federal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, the Quintana Roo Secretariat of Citizen Security, and the Mexican Navy.
Prosecutors said the American was in Mexico without legal status and unable to prove his legal stay. He was considered undocumented and was fleeing a homicide charge issued in Iowa.
He was handed over to the National Migration Institute (INM) in Cancún, where his immigration status will be determined in the coming hours. He is expected to be deported in the following days.
