Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Intentional homicides in Playa del Carmen fell 46.4% during the first seven months of 2026 compared with the same period last year, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP).
From January to July, reported cases dropped from 28 in 2025 to 15 in 2026, the figures show. The decline in homicides was accompanied by reductions in several property crimes across the municipality.
Motorcycle theft fell 46%, from 352 cases to 190, while vehicle theft decreased 45.1%, from 452 to 248 reported incidents.
Home burglary also registered a 37% decline, dropping from 219 cases in the first seven months of 2025 to 138 in the same period this year.
Other offenses also trended downward. Rape cases fell 30.4%, drug dealing dropped 16.2%, and overall robberies decreased 9.2%, according to the statistics.
In terms of kidnapping, official records show Playa del Carmen reported no cases in either of the two periods compared.
Carlos Montesinos García, the city’s Public Security Secretary, attributed the results to prevention efforts, police patrols, and coordination among security institutions operating in the municipality.
Municipal officials said they will continue operations, strengthen police presence, and maintain community outreach programs with the aim of sustaining the downward trend in crime and reinforcing safety for both residents and visitors.
