Cinépolis at Plaza Las Américas in Cancún Closes Over Water Leaks

Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Cinépolis movie theater at Plaza Las Américas in Cancún remained closed Saturday because of problems affecting the complex’s operation, catching customers off guard.

Cinépolis confirmed the suspension of service after reports began circulating early in the day from people who arrived to find the theater shut.

On social media, users said the closure was tied to water inside some areas of the complex. One report said water leaked into the screening rooms, while others said the building had flooded.

Officials have not publicly said how extensive the damage is or whether all of the theaters were affected.

Customers Arrive to Find Doors Closed

The closure left people who had planned to visit Plaza Las Américas to catch a film uncertain about whether the theater would open at all.

In comments posted on social media, some users asked whether the complex would open later in the day, while others shared what they saw at the site. One report said the VIP section would be accessible later, though that came from user comments rather than a confirmation of reopening.

Other comments focused on access to the mall and the condition of some of its areas.

No Reopening Time Announced

Cinépolis had not publicly set a time for the full resumption of operations at the complex.

The uncertainty left customers with scheduled screenings unsure of what to expect, and they were advised to check the status of their showtimes directly before heading to the mall.
