Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Public schools across Quintana Roo will close for one scheduled day in October, giving students a four-day break when it combines with the Day of the Dead holiday, the Public Education Department (SEP) confirmed.
According to the official SEP calendar, Oct. 30 is the only scheduled class suspension in October. When it joins Monday, Nov. 2 — already marked as a non-working day for teaching staff for Day of the Dead — it creates four consecutive days away from the classroom: Friday, Oct. 30; Saturday, Oct. 31; Sunday, Nov. 1; and Monday, Nov. 2.
Why Classes Are Canceled on Oct. 30
The closure corresponds to the second ordinary session of the Consejo Técnico Escolar (School Technical Council). The SEP designates these sessions as mandatory working days for teachers, during which students have no academic activities. The 2026-2027 school calendar sets the date for Oct. 30.
When Students Return
Students in basic education across Quintana Roo will return to their classrooms on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026.
All other weekdays in October will run as normal, with the exception of any extraordinary suspensions that state authorities may authorize because of severe weather.
