Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Organizers of the Chetumal 21K Race 2025 have unveiled a series of supplementary events set to take place alongside the main competition, scheduled for August 3 along the Bulevar Bahía in Chetumal. The announcement was made during the presentation of the race’s official T-shirt and commemorative medal, which feature designs inspired by the city’s iconic Megaescultura.

Canine Race and Electronic Music Festival Among Highlights

Yurissan Hernández Rovira, president of the Chetumal 21K Race 2025 organizing committee, confirmed that on the afternoon of August 2, the second edition of the Can Carrera “6 Huellitas Cruzando la Meta” will be held. The event, which begins at the Muelle Fiscal, coincides with World Homeless Animals Day and International Cat Day.

Additionally, following the awards ceremony for the 21K race on August 3, participants and spectators can attend the Run Fest, an electronic music festival at the Explanada de la Bandera. Organizers anticipate the event will serve as a celebratory gathering for runners and their companions.

Registration Details and Participant Demographics

Hernández Rovira noted that registration remains open but will close once the cap of 1,300 runners is reached or by the day before the race. Race kits will be distributed on August 2 at the Centro Social Bellavista from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The official uniform consists of green and black colors with design elements paying homage to the Megaescultura. The finisher’s T-shirt is white with blue accents, while the commemorative medal also draws inspiration from the landmark. These items are expected to become collector’s pieces for participants.

To date, over 1,100 runners have registered, with more than 60% hailing from outside Quintana Roo. Participants include athletes from nearly every Mexican state, as well as international competitors from Spain, Germany, Belize, El Salvador, the United States, Canada, and Kenya. Among the confirmed runners is Marcos Velázquez, a renowned visually impaired athlete.

Elite Competition and Race Focus

The majority of registered runners have opted for the 21-kilometer distance, reinforcing Chetumal’s growing reputation as a destination for long-distance running. At least 11 elite runners are expected to compete, raising the event’s competitive level.
