Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A dry box cargo truck caught fire while traveling on the federal Playa del Carmen–Tulum highway near the Bahía Príncipe hotel complex, prompting a significant emergency response and temporary traffic disruptions.
According to preliminary information, the incident originated in the front part of the vehicle for reasons that have not yet been determined. Within minutes, flames spread to the rest of the vehicle, producing a dense column of smoke visible from various points along the highway.
Motorists traveling through the area alerted authorities via emergency numbers, enabling the arrival of Civil Protection personnel and other rescue teams. Upon arrival, responders worked to control and extinguish the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby vegetation or reaching other vehicles traveling along the stretch.
During response operations, vehicular traffic was partially restricted in both directions, causing slow traffic for several minutes. Traffic security personnel coordinated vehicle flow and maintained a cordoned-off area as a preventive measure.
After several minutes of work, the fire was completely controlled and the situation was brought under control by authorities, allowing for the gradual restoration of traffic flow. The damaged vehicle sustained considerable damage, primarily in the engine area and cargo box.
No injuries or smoke inhalation cases have been reported. The truck driver managed to exit the vehicle before the fire spread completely.
