Cancún, Mexico — Cancún is counting down to its moment as the epicenter of global sports. The city has taken a crucial step toward hosting the 2025 Socca World Cup with the first Interinstitutional Operational Meeting, held at the Salón Presidentes of the Benito Juárez Municipal Palace. The tournament is scheduled to take place from November 28 to December 7, 2025.
A Historic First for the Socca World Cup
The 2025 edition will mark the first time the Socca World Cup is held outside Europe. It will also be the largest in the event’s history, featuring 48 national teams—a milestone for the sport worldwide.
The meeting was led by Alejandro Luna López, Director General of the Benito Juárez Sports Institute. Also in attendance were Sergio Ibarra, President of the América Socca Confederation, and Jacobo Arzate, head of the Quintana Roo Sports Commission (Codeq), along with officials from strategic agencies across all three levels of government.
Sergio Ibarra emphasized Cancún’s selection as host city, stating, “It was chosen for what it is, what it represents, and what it does.” The event is expected to draw an estimated 100,000 attendees, generating unprecedented economic and tourism benefits for the region.
Socca Fest: A Celebration of Sport and Culture
Running parallel to the tournament, the Socca Fest will offer free cultural and recreational activities for families, designed to strengthen community ties and provide an immersive experience for locals and visitors alike.
Alejandro Luna López hailed the event as “the best World Cup ever,” highlighting the commitment of the Sports Institute and the support of Governor Mara Lezama and Mayor Ana Paty Peralta. Their coordinated efforts aim to deliver a world-class event.
Cancún will join a prestigious list of past host cities, including Portugal (2018), Greece (2019), Hungary (2022), Germany (2023), and Oman (2024). The 2025 Socca World Cup will solidify the city’s status as an international sports capital.
