The Office of Internal Affairs at the Municipal Secretary of Public Safety and Transit in Benito Juarez is currently investigating a group of municipal police officers. This comes after a video surfaced showing the officers, who are from sector 2, allegedly accepting money from two individuals in public in Cancún.
The case, known as SMSPT/DAI/290/10/2024, has been opened following the circulation of the video on social media. The footage shows uniformed officers from patrol car 5897 accepting cash from the occupants of a white vehicle.
This incident has raised concerns about the integrity of the municipal police and has led to increased public mistrust towards the institutions tasked with ensuring their safety.
Due to the severity of the allegations, the Secretary of Public Safety has decided to suspend the officers involved as the investigation continues. The department has issued a statement reiterating its commitment to a "zero tolerance" policy towards any unlawful actions. They further emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law within the municipality.
