Cancun Police Crackdown on Motorcycle Gatherings: 91 Arrested, 104 Bikes Seized

Police officers at the scene of a motorcycle gathering operation in Cancun

Cancun, Quintana Roo — Police in Cancun arrested 91 people, including 33 minors, and seized 104 motorcycles during an operation targeting illegal motorcycle gatherings that had prompted citizen complaints about dangerous driving and street racing.

The operation took place on Prolongacion Chac Mool avenue after authorities received reports of motorcyclists performing risky maneuvers, accelerating loudly, and engaging in apparent races that endangered drivers, pedestrians, and other road users.

During the intervention, officers also located a three-year-old child who was at the site accompanied by individuals participating in the gathering. Authorities handled the situation according to established protocols.

The deployment was part of the “Vidas en Movimiento” program and involved coordinated participation from the Municipal Police of Citizen Security and Transit, the GEAVIG Group, Crime Prevention, Auxiliary Police, ERUM, the Legal Directorate, Internal Affairs, the Specialized Search Group for Persons, and human rights observers.

All 104 motorcycles were taken to the impound lot in accordance with the Benito Juarez Municipality Traffic Regulations. Those arrested were turned over to a Civic Judge on suspicion of public order disturbances and participation in unauthorized vehicular competitions on public roads.

The Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit stated that the actions responded to reports from the public and aimed to prevent accidents, reduce road risks, and enforce regulations, especially during events involving dozens of motorcyclists that could compromise the safety of others.
