Cancún launches speed reduction operations on major boulevard

Cancún Mayor Ana Paty Peralta supervising speed reduction operations on Blvd. Colosio

Cancún, Mexico — From Boulevard Luis Donaldo Colosio, Municipal President Ana Paty Peralta oversaw the start of random speed reduction operations using laser radars to enforce speed limits on the city’s various avenues and prevent accidents on roadways.

Early in the morning, the Mayor verified that elements from the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit, with support from the National Guard, were installed and measuring the speed at which drivers travel. She emphasized that the speed limit on that artery is 70 km per hour, while within the city it is 60 km per hour, provided there is no signage indicating another maximum permitted speed or it is a school zone where it is 20 km per hour.

“In these operations, we are urging drivers to respect speed limits. There will be no economic sanctions; however, we must be aware that respecting this speed limit saves lives,” she stated.

She also highlighted that there will be 10 elements from the Municipal Transit Directorate per shift, randomly conducting these operations on different roadways such as Boulevard Kukulcán in the Hotel Zone and José López Portillo and Bonampak avenues.

Also participating in the operation were the Municipal Secretary of Citizen Security and Transit, Jaime Padilla Barrientos, and the Municipal Transit Director, Ezequiel Segovia Góngora.
