Cancún, Quintana Roo — As the Easter holiday season gets underway, authorities in Cancún have launched a new digital tool designed to help visitors and residents make safer, more informed decisions at the beach.

The “Cancún Beach Dashboard,” introduced by Mayor Ana Paty Peralta, provides real-time information on coastal conditions across the destination’s most popular beaches. Accessible online, the platform centralizes key data that until now was often scattered or unavailable to the public.

According to officials, users can check sea conditions, wave intensity, and weather-related updates, along with lifeguard schedules, helping visitors choose not only where to go, but when it’s safest to enter the water. The system also includes practical information such as public transportation routes, available services, and amenities at each beach, making it easier to plan a full day along the coast.

One of the most important features is the inclusion of beach flag warnings, which are updated approximately every two hours. These flags—green, yellow, red, and black—indicate conditions ranging from calm waters to dangerous currents or closed beaches. While widely used across Mexico, many visitors are unfamiliar with their meaning, making this tool particularly valuable during high-traffic periods like Semana Santa.

Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa highlighted that the platform also tracks parking availability at at least 12 public beaches, a practical addition in a destination where access points can quickly become congested during peak travel seasons.

The launch comes at a time when Cancún is preparing for one of its busiest periods of the year. Easter holidays bring a surge of both domestic and international visitors, increasing demand on beaches, infrastructure, and emergency services. By providing centralized, up-to-date information, authorities aim to reduce risks associated with overcrowding, strong currents, and changing weather conditions.

Officials are urging beachgoers to use the dashboard as a planning tool, while continuing to follow on-site instructions from lifeguards and posted signage. Even with improved access to information, conditions in the Caribbean can change quickly, particularly with seasonal winds and shifting tides.

The “Cancún Beach Dashboard” is available online at tablerodeplayas.implancancun.gob.mx and forms part of a broader effort to modernize tourism management and improve safety in one of Mexico’s most visited coastal destinations.
