Cancún, Mexico — Municipal and state authorities have deployed 70 smart patrol vehicles equipped with advanced police technology to strengthen surveillance, improve response times, and enhance security strategy in Cancún.
The new fleet includes 40 patrol SUVs for regular patrols and special operations, 20 four-wheel-drive pickup trucks, and 10 all-terrain vehicles for strategic area surveillance. This brings the total municipal patrol fleet to over 200 vehicles.
For the first time, these intelligent units come fully equipped with the Vigilant Evidence Management System (VEMS), featuring four cameras and computers with facial recognition and license plate scanning capabilities. The systems connect directly to the C2 and C5 monitoring centers.
“This is a historic day for our municipality,” said Cancún Mayor Ana Paty Peralta during the handover ceremony at Malecón Tajamar. “We continue working on our comprehensive peace-building strategy with real, decisive actions—not just words.”
The mayor emphasized that security remains the government’s top priority and the main demand from Cancún residents. She noted the vehicles include panic buttons that can trigger immediate alerts throughout the system during emergencies.
“True security comes from reducing inequalities and rebuilding social fabric on one hand,” Peralta said, “and on the other, strengthening institutional capabilities with more technology, better equipment, enhanced training, and greater commitment from our police officers.”
Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama highlighted the deep commitment to crime prevention and peace-building efforts. “This represents responsible investment,” she said, “as every peso returns to the people in one of the areas they need most.”
Municipal Security Secretary Jaime Padilla Barrientos said the deployment represents a clear response for creating a more accessible, professional, and better-prepared police force. The vehicles will help prevent crime, improve response times, and build safer environments for families.
Additional security measures implemented include expanded street surveillance camera networks, body cameras for officers, and enhanced training through the Police Academy. Authorities also emphasized community policing initiatives, Peace Committees, and School Peace Guardians programs.
“Security is a daily, complex challenge,” Peralta concluded. “It doesn’t get solved overnight, but we build it every day. Today we can clearly say we’re moving forward because we have direction, strategy, and commitment.”
