Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Benito Juárez municipal government and the Quintana Roo state government have handed property deeds to 460 families in Cancún as part of the Property Welfare Regularization Program, which aims to give residents legal certainty over the land they occupy.
The ceremony took place at the Malecón Tajamar, where municipal president Ana Paty Peralta and Governor Mara Lezama presented the documents to residents from several neighborhoods who had been waiting for their lots to be regularized. Officials said the deeds give families paperwork that legally certifies ownership of their land.
Which neighborhoods received deeds?
State and municipal authorities handed documents to residents of 14 Cancún neighborhoods:
- Real del Bosque
- Las Huayas
- Cuna Maya
- Tierra y Libertad II and III
- Agua Azul
- Tucanes
- San Ignacio
- San Alfredo
- Salem
- Tropical
- Rivera II
- Los Pinos
- Bethel
- Pueblo Nuevo
Peralta said the handover formed part of coordinated work with the state government to address land regularization requests that had gone unanswered for years.
More than 2,100 deeds issued statewide
Lezama presented figures from the state’s Regularization and Housing Institute on legal certainty and the regularization of settlements:
- 2,102 deeds delivered
- 8 subdivisions completed
- 27 neighborhoods regularized
Of the 27 regularized neighborhoods, 12 already have services and public works, according to the governor.
More than 700 million pesos invested in infrastructure
Samuel Mollinedo Portilla, the city councilor who chairs the Urban Development and Mobility Commission, said the municipality has directed more than 700 million pesos to infrastructure works tied to the regularization effort. The projects include:
- Drainage and sewerage
- Installation of water lines
- Construction of absorption wells
- Electrification and street lighting
- Asphalt paving
- Construction and improvement of parks
Mollinedo said the investments are intended to improve infrastructure conditions in the neighborhoods and add value to the properties.
