Cancún, Quintana Roo — A Jaguar ended up inside a mangrove after rear-ending a parked white Hyundai Creta at a pull-off on Bulevar Kukulcán, in Cancún’s Hotel Zone, authorities said.

The crash happened at about 10:40 a.m. at kilometer 10, next to the Lorenzillo’s restaurant. According to initial reports, the driver of the sports car was speeding and lost control while entering a curve.

After striking the Creta, both vehicles were thrown off course. The Jaguar plowed into the mangrove and came to a stop against a tree near the lagoon, while the Creta ended up on the sidewalk.

Emergency response

Paramedics responded after the crash was reported to the 911 emergency line and evaluated those involved, who had bruises on various parts of their bodies. None required transport to a hospital.

Traffic officers and firefighters cordoned off the area while insurance adjusters assessed the damage. Tow trucks later pulled the Jaguar out of the mangrove, and both vehicles were taken to an impound lot as procedures continue.
