CANCÚN, QRoo — The Benito Juárez City Council will carry out a new phase of its 2024-2027 Urban Arborization Program this Saturday, September 6, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the roundabout located at the intersection of Nichupté and Tulum avenues, near the Ibis hotel.
The activity will be conducted in coordination with the Directorate of Public Services and Conalep, with the objective of advancing the goal of planting 11,000 native trees in various strategic points across the municipality. The sites under consideration include main avenues, medians, parks, and green areas.
According to the Director General of Ecology, Fernando Haro Salinas, the species to be planted—Ceiba, Maculis, Mahogany, Ciricote, Xcanlol, and Chacté—are adapted to the local ecosystem, which will contribute to strengthening biodiversity, improving vegetative cover, preventing soil erosion, and reducing the effect of urban heat islands.
The event will see participation from municipal authorities, state representatives, social organizations, and citizen volunteers. The event will remain open to the public in order to encourage community participation in environmental conservation actions.
The Urban Arborization Program encompasses seven phases, covering spaces such as López Portillo Avenue, Tulum Avenue, the Parque de la Equidad, and the Foundational Zone.
