Canadian Tourist Dies in Collision with Trailer on Tulum-Cobá Highway

Quintana Roo, Mexico — A Canadian tourist died after being struck by a tractor-trailer while traveling on a motorcycle on the Tulum-Cobá highway near the entrance to the Macario Gómez community. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. when a double-trailer tractor-truck collided with a motorcycle carrying a Canadian couple.

According to initial observations at the scene, the black cruiser-style motorcycle with chrome details and side luggage was severely damaged in the impact. The woman, who was riding as a passenger, died instantly after being trapped under the rear section of the trailer. Her companion sustained injuries and was treated at the scene by Civil Protection paramedics.

Emergency responders confirmed that upon arrival, the victim showed no vital signs. Municipal Transit officers cordoned off the area and implemented a partial road closure to allow for evidence preservation and recovery operations. Minutes later, personnel from the Forensic Medical Service arrived to remove the body and begin corresponding procedures.

Ongoing Investigation

The involved tractor-truck remained stopped on the roadway while authorities conducted initial investigations to determine the accident mechanics and assign responsibility. So far, no information has been released about whether the trailer driver was detained or gave a statement at the scene.

Vehicular traffic was affected in both directions for several hours due to the presence of official units, emergency personnel, and the cordoned area established to prevent additional risks. Cones, patrol cars, and rescue equipment remained on the highway while forensic work continued.

This tragic incident highlights the dangers faced by motorcyclists and tourists traveling on this roadway, where heavy vehicle traffic combines with high tourist flows during the December holiday season.
