Brazilian woman arrested in Mexico for human trafficking scheme

Mexico City, Mexico — Authorities from the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), in coordination with the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office (FGJCDMX), have arrested Débora “N,” a Brazilian national, for her alleged involvement in human trafficking for sexual exploitation in Playa del Carmen.

Arrest Follows Investigation

The arrest took place in the Hipódromo Condesa neighborhood of Mexico City after a technical investigation led authorities to the suspect. Débora “N” was subsequently transferred to Quintana Roo, where she was placed in custody at a correctional facility pending a judicial ruling on her legal status.

The FGE stated in a social media post: “The Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office has arrested a Brazilian woman in Mexico City for the crime of human trafficking in Playa del Carmen.”

Alleged Criminal Operation

Investigations by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Human Trafficking revealed that Débora “N” operated alongside her romantic partner, Matías Gustavo “N,” an Argentine national, who was recently charged in connection with the same case.

The couple allegedly recruited women through social media advertisements seeking escorts. Once the victims agreed, they were taken to a residence in the Residencial Allegranza subdivision in Playa del Carmen, where they were forced to provide sexual services for fees ranging between 1,500 and 2,500 pesos. The couple reportedly retained 30% of the earnings.

Exploitation and Coercion

Victims were also subjected to excessive monthly charges for rent, utilities, and food, with fines of up to 1,000 pesos for infractions such as leaving the air conditioning on. Additionally, they were allegedly supplied with drugs to sell to clients.

Most victims were foreign nationals who were threatened by their captors, who warned them against attempting to escape or working elsewhere. The suspects claimed a “mafia” would kidnap them if they disobeyed.

Rescue and Ongoing Investigation

During a raid conducted by the FGE at the residence, two female victims were rescued, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Débora “N.” Authorities continue to investigate the trafficking network and provide support to the affected individuals.

The FGE acknowledged the collaboration of the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office in the arrest.
