Tulum, Mexico — A Brazilian tourist sustained serious injuries after being struck by a construction company pickup truck while riding a motorcycle on Federal Highway 307 at kilometer 217, near the access to Laguna Ka’am Lu’um on the Felipe Carrillo Puerto–Tulum stretch.

Details of the Accident

The incident occurred at midday when the woman attempted to merge onto the main roadway from the shoulder. According to preliminary reports, the motorcyclist failed to notice the proximity of the pickup truck, which was traveling at a constant speed in the same direction. The collision was unavoidable, propelling her several meters across the asphalt and leaving the motorcycle completely destroyed.

Emergency responders reported that the victim likely suffered fractures to her tibia and fibula, as well as abrasions on her buttocks. Civil Protection personnel were the first to provide assistance, followed by paramedics, who stabilized her and urgently transported her to a specialized hospital in Tulum.

Aftermath and Traffic Disruptions

The involved pickup truck was identified as belonging to a construction materials company and was secured by authorities pending further investigation. The accident temporarily reduced traffic to a single lane, causing minor congestion in the area.

This stretch of highway is known for heavy traffic, including private vehicles, tourist transport, and freight trucks, and has been the site of multiple accidents in recent years—partly due to inadequate road infrastructure for safe merging and crossings.

Authorities Urge Caution

Traffic officials urged all drivers, particularly motorcyclists and heavy vehicle operators, to exercise extreme caution in tourist access zones and to adhere to merging regulations to prevent life-threatening accidents.

No further details about the victim’s condition or potential legal actions have been released at this time.
