Authorities Shut Down Unlicensed Bar in Tulum Amid Allegations of Illegal Activities

Authorities seal an unlicensed bar in Tulum's 2 de Octubre neighborhood

Tulum, Quintana Roo — Authorities shut down an unlicensed bar in the irregular settlement of 2 de Octubre, located on Avenida Satélite at Calle Mercurio prolongación, following complaints from neighbors about constant nighttime activity and suspected illegal operations.

The establishment, identified as “Habim,” was operating as a point of sale for alcoholic beverages without visible regulation. According to initial information gathered at the scene, the bar was allegedly run by a woman known locally as “La Burundanga,” who is suspected of coordinating the business’s activities.

Witnesses reported that the premises was not only used as a bar but also for other irregular activities. Allegations include the sale of uncertified drinks, the presence of illicit substances, and practices related to human exploitation, raising concerns among area residents.

The intervention came after repeated reports about the establishment’s operations in a zone where such businesses often operate outside any control. During the operation, the site was closed and secured while authorities conduct investigations to determine the full scope of activities carried out there.

No official arrests were reported at the time of the closure, but security personnel remained in the area to prevent the establishment from continuing operations or the removal of potential evidence. The property was seized as part of the process.

This case adds to other identified spots in Tulum’s irregular neighborhoods, where makeshift bars or night businesses operate without permits and with little oversight, creating risky environments for nearby residents. Residents of 2 de Octubre have noted that such places often operate during the early morning hours, with a constant flow of people and situations that disturb the area’s peace.

The investigation is ongoing to determine responsibilities and clarify whether the establishment was linked to other illicit activities, while the property remains closed and under observation.
