Isla Mujeres, Mexico — The municipal government of Isla Mujeres, led by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, successfully hosted the photographic exhibition "Isla Mujeres: Hoy, mañana y siempre" ("Isla Mujeres: Today, Tomorrow, and Forever") at the Municipal Plaza. The event, organized as part of the town’s Founding Festivities, celebrated the island’s cultural identity, historical heritage, and collective memory.

A Tribute to History and Identity

The display offered a visual journey through Isla Mujeres’ past, present, and future, encouraging reflection on its evolution and aspirations for coming generations.

During the opening ceremony, Culture Director Maricarmen Martínez Vera emphasized the municipal government’s commitment to using culture as a tool for social transformation. Local historian Fidel Villanueva Madrid provided context on the historical significance of the images, which captured defining moments in the island’s development.

Strengthening Community Pride

The mayor reaffirmed her administration’s dedication to promoting cultural spaces and preserving historical memory as pathways to peace, well-being, and equitable development. “The past inspires us, the present commits us, and the future is built together,” she added.

Cultural Performances and Closing Festivities

The event concluded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a guided tour of the "Casas de Madera" ("Wooden Houses"), followed by performances by the Municipal Ballet, singer Julieta Rosado, and the dance group Añoranzas de Isla Mujeres.
