Cancún, Quintana Roo — Amid Christmas Eve celebrations, an armed attack on a taxi left two people dead and two others seriously injured in the Alfredo V. Bonfil delegation.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night, December 24, just hours before Christmas, on Benito Juárez Street between Emiliano Zapata and Francisco Villa. According to initial reports, around 8:20 p.m., residents of the area heard a burst of gunfire, which was initially mistaken for fireworks due to the December festivities.
Minutes later, multiple calls to the 911 emergency number alerted authorities about a shooting attack against four people traveling in a Nissan March taxi from the Andrés Quintana Roo union.
Municipal Police officers arrived at the scene and confirmed that the victims were three men and one woman, with one of them found face down beside the public service vehicle.
Paramedics from a private company confirmed that two of the individuals no longer showed vital signs, including the taxi driver. The other two injured individuals received first aid and were transported to the IMSS hospital in Cobá for medical attention.
The area was cordoned off by local authorities to preserve the crime scene, while personnel from the Forensic Services of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) conducted the removal of the bodies and secured evidence.
For these events, the Common Jurisdiction Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation file for the crime of qualified homicide.
