Armed Attack at Cancun Residential Complex Leaves Man Unharmed

Cancun, Quintana Roo — A man escaped uninjured Thursday night after gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on him at the entrance of the Rinconada Buenavista residential complex in Cancun, authorities said.

The attack occurred on Chichen Itza Avenue in the Supermanzana 38 district, just meters from Kabah Avenue, as the victim was arriving at the complex on his motorcycle. According to initial reports, two armed men on a motorcycle intercepted him and began shooting directly at him.

Witnesses reported hearing about six gunshots. Several bullets struck the facade of the complex’s entrance, but the man got off his motorcycle and ran to safety, escaping without injuries.

Residents and motorists alerted emergency services through 911, prompting a rapid deployment of Municipal Police, Public Security Secretariat officers, and Navy personnel, who arrived to verify the report and interview witnesses.

Officers cordoned off the area to preserve evidence and found at least three spent handgun casings at the scene. Unofficially, other casings may have been crushed by vehicles that continued driving through the area before the perimeter was secured.

Later, forensic experts and investigators from the State Prosecutor’s Office processed the scene and began inquiries. They interviewed witnesses who confirmed the victim was arriving at the complex when the attackers intercepted him and fired directly at him.

Because the man escaped unharmed, paramedics were not needed. The Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation to determine a motive, identify those responsible, and establish whether the attack was linked to any prior incident.
