Jarrad Gillespie, an American businessman involved in the tourism industry, has been reported to the State Attorney General's Office for alleged fraud and threats against a tour company owner in Cozumel. Gillespie operates through the company "Cozumel Cruise Excursions" on the popular tourist platform, TripAdvisor.
According to the investigation file 1944/2024, Gillespie, along with his mother-in-law Brenda Salas, is accused of defrauding a local tour company of over $95,000. The company had been providing tour operations, vehicles, quad bikes, meals, and refreshments for Gillespie's clients.
The complainant, who wishes to remain anonymous due to fear of retaliation, alleges that Gillespie and his wife, Jenifer Rodríguez Salas, have been making threatening phone calls and sending images of Gillespie brandishing firearms. Gillespie and his wife are currently believed to be residing in the United States.
The initial interaction between the complainant's company and Gillespie's was facilitated by Brenda Salas. Initially, Gillespie's company was prompt in settling their bills. However, over time, they began to only partially pay for services, eventually accumulating significant debts before ceasing payment altogether and leaving for the United States.
The State Attorney General's Office has since issued the necessary documents for an arrest warrant. It has also been alleged that Gillespie, with the assistance of his wife and mother-in-law, has started operating with another company in Cozumel, using the same fraudulent tactics and incurring further debts with local businesses.
