Adventure Tourism Rises in Puerto Morelos Beyond Beaches

Puerto Morelos, Mexico — An increasing number of domestic and foreign tourists are seeking to enjoy more than just the sun and beach of the Mexican Caribbean, leading to growth in adventure tourism.

Puerto Morelos is one of the destinations that has most successfully positioned spaces for contact with nature and adventure experiences, particularly along the Ruta de los Cenotes. Extreme Adventure, for example, has managed to maintain a constant flow of visitors and gradual growth in its operations, thanks to market diversification and a strategy focused on service quality.

“The destination has always had its ups and downs, depending on the seasons, but we have maintained visitor numbers, catering to different tourist segments and trying to keep, so to speak, occupancy in the park. We are growing,” said Arturo Sotelo, sales area representative for the park.

Among its visitors are tourists from the United States, Europe, and Asia, in addition to the Mexican market, which continues to be one of the most important for the destination.

Regarding occupancy, Sotelo detailed that it can vary considerably depending on the day and month. There are days with low visitor numbers, while on other occasions demand is such that they are forced to limit access.

On average, Extreme Adventure receives several hundred people per day, maintaining a balance between capacity and visitor experience. Comparing results with 2024, the park reports constant, though moderate, growth, prioritizing not sacrificing service quality for a rapid increase in visitor numbers.

“The goal is to continue growing, but always taking care of the service and experience we offer,” Sotelo emphasized.

Looking ahead to 2026, Extreme Adventure seeks to strengthen its offerings, improve processes, and continue positioning itself as an attractive option within the Mexican Caribbean. The park offers activities for both tourists and local residents, who can enjoy cenotes, ATV rides, horseback riding, zip lines, snorkeling, and gastronomic tours, making it an alternative for weekend getaways and adventure experiences in Puerto Morelos.
