Cecilia Patrón, the newly elected mayor of Mérida, has pledged to revitalize the city's markets. She emphasized the importance of these spaces in fostering community and generating income for families. "We will utilize the existing market infrastructure and work collaboratively to breathe new life into these essential community spaces," she said.
Patrón made these remarks after meeting with residents and traders of the Cordemex market. She stressed the importance of understanding their needs and maintaining a close relationship with them. "Being present and understanding what they need is crucial for the continuous improvement of the market," she stated.
The rejuvenation of the markets, according to Patrón, will involve attracting new customers, promoting locally made and organic products, and implementing tourist attractions to maximize each market's potential. This approach is expected to stimulate the local economy by offering new consumption options.
Patrón also acknowledged the unique history and dynamics of each neighborhood and township, including their local markets. She emphasized that the active involvement of residents is crucial for the success of new projects aimed at enhancing the image, economy, and vitality of these public spaces.
Residents and traders expressed their needs and their confidence in Patrón's leadership. They also committed to supporting her in implementing projects that benefit the community. "We're in this together, working as a team to find solutions to each need. We're all going to spruce up Mérida together, ensuring the highest quality public services. That's my commitment to you," Patrón declared.
In her ongoing efforts to stay connected with the families of Mérida, Patrón continues to visit various parts of the city and its townships. She expressed gratitude for the trust they have placed in her to lead the upcoming Mérida City Council, promising a governance style that benefits everyone.
