QUINTANA ROO, Mexico — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has officially inaugurated the activities for the 2025 National Public Health Week, calling on the population of Quintana Roo to participate in the nationwide initiative. The launch event took place at the Las Casitas park in the state capital.
During the event, the head of the state executive detailed the scope of the week’s programming. “During this week, we will carry out more than 500 activities that will impact more than 300,000 Quintana Roo residents through the promotion of healthy eating, reducing the consumption of sugary drinks, promoting physical activity, glucose and hypertension screening tests, and the promotion of sexual and mental health,” explained Governor Lezama.
Schedule and Purpose of the Health Week
The 2025 National Public Health Week in Quintana Roo is scheduled to take place from September 6 to September 13. The activities are planned for all public spaces, schools, and workplaces across the state with the goal of offering free services under the motto "Unidos por tu salud, construyendo bienestar" (United for Your Health, Building Wellbeing).
Governor Lezama expressed her gratitude to President Claudia Sheinbaum, stating that under her leadership, public policies ensuring social justice and health in every part of the country are becoming more robust. She also thanked the Mexican Government's Secretary of Health, other entities, and public officials for making the wellness initiative possible.
Flavio Carlos Rosado, the Secretary of Health for Quintana Roo, emphasized the importance of citizens actively participating in this week of intensive actions. He highlighted that close collaboration between the citizenry and the government is fundamental to achieving genuine change in health outcomes.
The stated purpose of the government, which described itself as distinct, humanist, and with a feminist heart, is to bring health services closer to all citizens, especially the most vulnerable groups. This will be accomplished through informational, preventive, and participatory activities that promote integral wellbeing.
Planned Activities and Thematic Focus
The week’s activities are oriented around five fundamental thematic axes:
- The prevention and control of pathologies, including vaccination, early detection, dengue prevention, and reproductive and sexual health.
- The health of mothers, children, and adolescents, ensuring timely and comprehensive services for these groups.
- The social determinants of health, which are the circumstances in which individuals are born, grow, live, and work. This includes access to education, work, and health services.
- Mental health and wellbeing, promoting environments of emotional support, personal care, and psychological assistance.
- Community participation and the promotion of healthy environments, through actions that include cleaning patios and vacant lots, as well as strategies like "lava, tapa y voltea" (wash, cover, and flip over) to eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
The specific activities to be executed during the week will include community workshops, informational talks, communication campaigns, health screenings, and preventive and promotional actions in public places.
