13th Ocean Festival: Art, Culture & Conservation in Cancún

Cancún, Quintana Roo — In observance of World Oceans Day, the 13th Festival of the Oceans will take place from June 8 to June 14, 2025. The event, organized by Delphinus—a Quintana Roo-based zoological institution specializing in the care and interaction with marine mammals—aims to raise environmental awareness, promote education, and encourage community participation in ocean conservation.

A Decade of Ocean Advocacy

Since its inaugural edition in 2013, the Festival of the Oceans has become a national benchmark for promoting oceanic culture through art, science, and civic engagement. Over the past decade, the festival has engaged thousands of participants through educational and interactive activities. It has earned multiple accolades, including the National Award for Ecological Merit in the Non-Formal Environmental Education category, as well as recognition at sustainability business competitions in Spain and the United States.

Festival Highlights

The festival’s program will commence on June 8 with the Concert for the Ocean at Cancún’s City Theater, featuring a special performance by Mexico’s Secretariat of National Defense. The opening day will also include the awards ceremony for the Fourth University Short Film Competition for the Ocean, showcasing the creativity of environmentally conscious young filmmakers.

On June 10, the Children and Youth Drawing Competition will be inaugurated and awarded at Terminal 4 of Cancún International Airport, allowing millions of travelers to admire the artistic talent of young participants.

The First Sustainable Fishing Workshop on June 11 will address overfishing concerns and promote sustainable alternatives. The festival will conclude on June 14 with a beach cleanup at Bahía Petempich in Puerto Morelos.
