Yucatan Governor Inaugurates Rehabilitated Parks in Baca Municipality

Yucatan Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena speaking at the inauguration of renovated parks in Baca municipality

Baca, Yucatan — Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena inaugurated two renovated parks in the center of Baca municipality on Monday, restoring public spaces that had been abandoned for years.

The governor toured the area and opened the remodeled children’s parks located next to the Purísima Concepción church. The renovations were carried out through the Plan Bienestar Yucatán to provide residents with dignified spaces for recreational activities and children’s development.

“We’re very happy to come to this municipality to inaugurate the renovation of these children’s spaces that we’ve recovered for the children and youth of this municipality,” Díaz Mena said. “They’ve become suitable places again because they’re located in the heart of Baca and are now dignified spaces for family gatherings that help children and youth come for healthy recreation.”

The governor stated that this project represents more than just infrastructure work, as it contributes to community well-being, promotes social justice, and helps reduce inequalities by providing girls and boys with an appropriate place to play, socialize, and grow.

Díaz Mena also announced new initiatives for Baca municipality, including lighting for the municipal baseball field, joint remodeling with the town council of the children’s park in Tixkuncheil, and construction of five new kilometers of harvest roads.

“This is what the Maya Renaissance is about — directing the budget to the needs that communities present to us, and especially what citizens present to us,” Díaz Mena affirmed.

The governor emphasized that these types of projects and commitments are possible thanks to the support that President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo provides to Yucatan.

Alaine López Briceño, Secretary of Infrastructure for Well-being, noted that these actions respond to Governor Díaz Mena’s instruction to bring well-being to all municipalities in the state by rescuing public spaces that citizens themselves have requested be improved.

“This is how we’ll continue bringing public works and infrastructure that transform families’ lives, consolidating projects together with municipalities, and dignifying spaces and the quality of life of girls, boys, and all citizens,” she stated.

Baca Mayor Freddy Basto Basto thanked the governor for his visit and for promoting projects that allow the municipality’s children to have dignified spaces to play. He also reaffirmed his willingness to continue working in a coordinated manner on more actions that benefit the community.

The interventions allocated 2.4 million pesos to rehabilitate perimeter ironwork, lighting posts, and benches. Workers also poured concrete floors with brushed finishes; supplied and installed synthetic grass; forged drainage grates and stormwater channels; drilled drainage wells; and installed LED pole-top lighting, reflectors, trash cans, plastic-wood benches, and children’s play modules.

The event was attended by Isaac González Bernal, Director General of the Institute for the Construction and Conservation of Public Works in Yucatan (Incoppy); Joaquín Humberto Xuffi Cárdenas, Undersecretary of Planning, Economy and Social Infrastructure of the Secretariat of Well-being; and mothers Suemy Isabel Garrido Chico and Fabiola Herrera Concha, beneficiaries of these projects.
