Young Man Sexually Assaulted on Va y Ven Bus in Merida, Files Complaint

Merida, Yucatan — A young man reported being sexually assaulted aboard a Va y Ven public transit bus in Merida, leading to the arrest of a suspect, authorities said.

The victim, identified as Asaf Camara, described the incident on social media to alert other potential victims. He said a man between 40 and 50 years old sat next to him and began touching his leg. Initially, Camara thought the man was trying to rob him, but the suspect then touched his genitals.

Camara moved away, but the man repeated the action. The victim confronted the aggressor without using physical force and sought help from authorities. However, he said officers only suggested the suspect apologize.

Unsatisfied, Camara filed a formal complaint with the State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE). The suspect was taken into provisional custody while investigations continue.
