Police and forensic personnel at the scene where a woman's body was found on a highway near Kantunilkín, Quintana Roo

Kantunilkín, Quintana Roo — Authorities launched a major police operation Sunday morning after discovering a woman’s body on a highway in the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas.

Reliable sources reported that the victim was found beside the monument to former municipal president Terencio Tah Quetzal on the Kantunilkín-Vicente Guerrero highway. Initial reports indicate the body showed no signs of life and was likely abandoned at the site overnight.

Forensic personnel collected evidence at the scene with support from military forces, who controlled vehicle traffic in the area. The location is a vital route for tourist traffic to Holbox island.

The State Prosecutor’s Office has maintained complete silence regarding the woman’s identity. No official statement has confirmed the cause of death or identified the victim, though preliminary information suggests a possible execution.

This violent incident follows the recent discovery of another deceased person in the community of La Esperanza, near a sports field. Community authorities are demanding increased police presence as security concerns grow in an area traditionally considered safe for travelers and residents.
