Cancún, Quintana Roo — A woman was shot and killed in front of her two young children Monday afternoon while shopping at a grocery store in Cancún’s Region 247 neighborhood.
The victim, approximately 35 years old, had just picked up her 8-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter from school and stopped at the store in the Bahía Real informal settlement to buy food when two armed men on a motorcycle intercepted her at the entrance.
Witnesses said the assailants opened fire multiple times, killing the woman at the scene despite the presence of her children. The attackers then fled toward the Arco Vial roadway.
Neighbors called emergency services, prompting a response from municipal police officers and Red Cross paramedics. Medical personnel confirmed the woman had no vital signs upon arrival.
Residents told authorities they had taken the children to a nearby home for safety. The Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence (GEAVIG) later arrived to provide support to the children and transported them to the Municipal Public Security Department facilities.
Municipal authorities cordoned off the area to preserve the crime scene while agents from the State Prosecutor’s Office, along with criminal investigators, collected evidence and transported the body to the forensic medical service.
The victim remains unidentified, and the investigation has been assigned to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Femicide Investigations.
