Cancún, Quintana Roo — A woman died in a motorcycle crash after colliding with a car in Cancún’s Supermanzana 92 early Saturday morning.
The incident occurred on Miguel Hidalgo Avenue, Route 5, at the intersection with 79th Street in front of the Los Colorines subdivision. Witnesses reported the crash involved a motorcycle and a Honda Civic.
According to witness accounts, the motorcycle driver and his passenger were traveling the wrong way on 79th Street when they attempted to merge onto Miguel Hidalgo Avenue and struck the side of the blue metallic Honda Civic.
Police officers detained the Honda driver, who appeared to be intoxicated, and transported him to security facilities to be handed over to the State Prosecutor’s Office. Despite his condition, authorities noted he was driving on a main thoroughfare with right of way.
The motorcycle driver was taken to General Hospital for medical treatment. The woman’s body remained at the scene until forensic personnel transported it to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
