Valladolid Hosts Second Edition of La Vid y la Ceiba Wine Festival

Valladolid, Yucatán — Organizers have announced the second edition of La Vid y la Ceiba – Vendimia Maya, a festival bringing Mexican wine, regional gastronomy and tourism experiences to this colonial city in Yucatán.

The program unfolds over two days: a gastronomic and wine-pairing route through local restaurants on Friday, Oct. 9, followed by the main festival on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Recinto Selva Maya.

Sixteen Restaurants Join the Opening Day

On Oct. 9, sixteen restaurants across Valladolid will each offer their own dining experience, pairing proposal, wine selection, special pricing and a reservation system.

The format allows chefs, restaurateurs, sommeliers and special guests to blend regional cooking with Mexican wine, extending the festival into different parts of the city and creating a route for both residents and visitors.

To encourage longer stays, all host hotels for La Vid y la Ceiba will offer a 50% discount on the second night.

Juan Pablo Correa Ceballos, president of the Valladolid Restaurant Association (Arvay), also announced that every participating restaurant will serve complimentary drinks on Friday, Oct. 9, and Saturday, Oct. 10.

Main Event at Recinto Selva Maya

The centerpiece of the festival takes place Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Recinto Selva Maya, which will be open from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The official inauguration is scheduled for 2 p.m. with authorities, tourism sector representatives, participating wineries, chefs, sommeliers, media and special guests in attendance.

After the ribbon-cutting, attendees will tour the festival’s various areas and experiences. A Mayan elder will accompany the walk and perform a traditional ceremony asking permission from the aluxes — guardian spirits in Maya cosmology — to formally open the day, adding a symbolic element tied to Yucatán’s cultural identity.

Visitors can explore the Winery Zone and take part in a free tasting of national wines with 15 invited wineries. The complimentary tasting continues while the festival stays open until 10 p.m., with food, music and artisanal goods for sale.
