Valladolid Hosts Second Edition of La Vid y la Ceiba Wine Festival

Valladolid, Yucatán — The second La Vid y la Ceiba – Vendimia Maya invites visitors to make a weekend of Valladolid. A restaurant-led wine-pairing route opens the celebration on Friday, October 9, before the main festival brings Mexican wineries, regional food, music and artisans to Selva Maya on Saturday, October 10.

The name joins la vid, the grapevine, with the ceiba, a tree of deep significance in Maya culture. Although the festival takes place in Yucatán, the wines come from other Mexican regions: the organizers’ winery guide features producers from Guanajuato, Aguascalientes, Baja California and Zacatecas, with Guanajuato as this year’s invited state.

Friday: Choose a Restaurant and Reserve a Table

Organizers say 16 Valladolid restaurants will take part in Friday’s gastronomic and wine-pairing route, scheduled from 2–9 p.m. Each will set its own menu, wine selection, price and reservation arrangements. This is a chance to explore the city over lunch or dinner, rather than a single meal served at the Saturday venue. The festival’s restaurant page profiles participating establishments, including La Hostería del Marqués, Finesterre Valladolid, Humo Grill House and Sikil; visitors should contact their chosen restaurant for its current menu, price and availability.

Juan Pablo Correa Ceballos, president of the Valladolid Restaurant Association, has also said participating restaurants will offer complimentary drinks on October 9 and 10. Ask the restaurant what its offer includes and whether a reservation or purchase is required.

Saturday: Wine, Food and Music at Selva Maya

The main festival runs from 2–10 p.m. Saturday at Selva Maya, on the Valladolid–Mérida federal highway at Km 3.5, outside the historic center. Its 2 p.m. inauguration is expected to bring together participating wineries, chefs, sommeliers and tourism representatives. Organizers have described a ceremonial opening led by a Maya elder, who will ask permission from the aluxes, guardian spirits in Maya tradition.

Visitors can then explore themed areas for gastronomy, traditional cooks, artisans, local producers and wineries. Recent program coverage describes a Patio del Humo serving foods such as cochinita pibil and lechón, a charcuterie area, grape-stomping activities and live cultural performances. A Guanajuato wine masterclass is listed for 3:30–4:40 p.m.; check the organizers’ program for any schedule changes or booking requirements.

The planned tasting brings together 15 Mexican wineries and is included with festival admission. There is one timing detail worth checking before you go: although the festival stays open until 10 p.m., the published program coverage places the included winery tasting at 2–6 p.m. Arrive during that window if tasting is your priority. Food, additional drinks and artisan goods will be available to buy; do not assume they are included in admission.

Tickets, Overnight Stays and Getting There

Tickets have also been announced for sale at Hotel Mesón del Marqués and Valladolid’s municipal tourism offices.

Selva Maya is outside central Valladolid, so arrange a ride back to town in advance, especially if you plan to sample wine. Travelers coming from Quintana Roo should also account for the clock change: Valladolid is one hour behind Cancún, Playa del Carmen and Tulum. A 2 p.m. start in Valladolid is 3 p.m. Quintana Roo time.
