Used Car Sales Through Rental Companies Increase in Quintana Roo

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Used car sales through rental companies are rising in Quintana Roo as buyers seek the certainty of acquiring a vehicle that is fully compliant and avoiding fraud, according to Eduardo Romero, deputy operations director for the southern zone of Mex Rent a Car, which this week opened its new pre-owned vehicle branch in Cancún.

“The transparency is that when we hand over the car, we have already done all the verification — that it has no theft reports, that the car is in good condition, and that the invoicing is clear from the time we bought it to the moment we deliver it,” Romero said.

He explained that the company applies strict quality criteria and follows the life cycle of each vehicle before it is made available to the public, a transparency process designed to avoid risks, especially as fraud and the risks of private transactions between individuals continue to increase.

Romero said buyers are increasingly choosing to purchase vehicles through established rental companies, which has allowed the company to expand its business model by offering certified pre-owned cars that guarantee a clean history and rigorous professional maintenance from the first kilometer.

With 30 years of experience and its corporate headquarters in Guadalajara, Mex Rent a Car operates 36 sales locations across the country, including major airports. In Quintana Roo, the company operates in Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Tulum and Chetumal, with immediate expansion plans for the fiscal pier in Playa del Carmen and the Maya Train station in Chetumal.

Romero said the company’s background in auto rental ensures that the vehicles offered for sale have been maintained under strict corporate standards, providing a reliable and safe alternative to the informal market. He said the final customer receives a vehicle with peace of mind that its origin and mechanical condition have been overseen by experts.

Transparency, he said, is the best defense against modern auto fraud, which has become increasingly sophisticated. By choosing an established rental company, the customer has the documentary guarantee that the car has no active theft reports or irregularities in its invoicing chain.

Even in cases where a vehicle was recovered after an incident, the company provides all legal documentation and follow-up to certify its lawful status with the relevant authorities.
