On November 14th, the 122nd anniversary of the founding of Playa del Carmen will be celebrated. This date is significant as it is the first recorded mention of Playa del Carmen in the State records, marking its establishment in its current location.
José Luis Acosta Quiam, the leader of the "Unidos por Playa" Civil Association, shared that the group primarily consists of members from the founding families of Playa del Carmen. For over a decade, they have been advocating for official state recognition of this important date. As part of the annual tradition, a series of activities and ceremonies are organized to honor this historic event.
Each year, a ceremonial event is held at Founders Park, in collaboration with the municipal authorities. Following the ceremony, a floral tribute is presented in honor of the area's first inhabitants. Chroniclers then trace the genealogical lineage of these founding families up to the present day.
In addition, a commemorative breakfast is hosted at the Ejidal House. This event serves to promote and share the history of the families and pioneers who established Playa del Carmen. It also acknowledges the ongoing contributions of their descendants to the growth and development of Playa del Carmen across all sectors.
